A Thousand Horses helped kick off Rolling Stone Country Sessions, powered by Ram, a new performance and interview series filmed on a bucolic patch of ground north of Nashville.

In this outtake from the series, the band plays its current single “Southernality,” elevated by some greasy slide work from guitarist Bill Satcher.

“‘Southernality’ is a combination of words, of ‘Southern’ and ‘personality,’ that I put together and made up,” says Horses’ singer Michael Hobby of the title track to their debut album. “It’s about the things we grew up observing in South Carolina and Georgia, where we’re from. Those metaphors and clichés, and the lifestyle of growing up in the South, but being proud of where you come from, no matter where it is.”

A Thousand Horses are currently on the road with Jason Aldean and will perform at CMA Music Festival in Nashville in June.

Look for a new installment of Rolling Stone Country Sessions, powered by Ram, next month.
