Arcade Fire singer Win Butler recently spoke out against Donald Trump in a wide-ranging interview with Red Bull Music Academy, calling the Republican presidential candidate "a complete fucking nightmare and a clown and a joke." The Canadian singer-songwriter also endorsed Democrat Hillary Clinton, saying she "will be a great president," Pitchfork reports.

"It really is an extremely important election," Butler said. "You don't have to hang out with Hillary. But, Jesus Christ, vote for Hillary Clinton. Everyone register because it could not be heavier. The consequences could not be more dire."

The musician argued that a Trump presidency would have a negative impact on "millions" of Americans. "There's a lot of kids that will not have access to healthcare and to education," he said. "There's, like, millions and millions and millions of people whose lives will – the practical day-to-day of their lives will – be extremely shaped."

Throughout the nearly two-hour chat, Butler discussed a range of topics – including how he met his wife/bandmate, Régine Chassagne; his disinterest in "fucking bullshit" music criticism ("You don't really know if anything is good for 10 or 20 years anyway") and Arcade Fire's relationship with the late David Bowie, who added guest vocals on the band's song "Reflektor" ("Talk about meeting your heroes – just such a deep, deep source of inspiration on so many levels").

Butler punted on questions about Arcade Fire's upcoming fifth LP, which follows 2013's Reflektor. "[We] released a record like a year ago," he joked. "We just called it something else, and no one liked it, so it kind of disappeared. So … we broke up."

Arcade Fire haven't set a timetable for their next album, but Butler's brother/bandmate, Will Butler, teased in a Reddit AMA that the LP could be ready by spring 2017.
