See Drake White Get 'Back to Free' in Intimate Outdoor Performance news

Many country artists talk up their great outdoors bona fides, but perhaps none are as comfortable in nature as Drake White. The “Livin’ the Dream” singer-songwriter is the latest artist to be featured in Rolling Stone Country Sessions, our new performance and interview series powered by Ram Trucks.

“In the outdoors is where I feel free,” says White. “It’s all I ever wanted to be, to be able to explore and be open. When I’m outside and I am seeing sunsets and sunrises, I feel alive.”

For his Sessions episode, White, an Alabama native, played current single “Livin’ the Dream,” the self-deprecating ballad “Making Me Look Good Again” and the liberating “Back to Free.” (Watch an extended version of “Back to Free” below.)

“It’s about growing up and having the ability to do what you want to do,” says White of the song. “Being free is a beautiful place to be in life.”

On tour this summer with Zac Brown Band, White holds his own as one of the genre’s most captivating live entertainers. It’s his goal, he says, to forge a palpable connection with the audience.

“We’re trying to create moments, opportunities for people to come out and forget about their worries. . . and enjoy music, enjoy art for a night,” he says. “Being in that moment is my favorite place to be on earth, in front of people and sharing experiences.”
