Eric Church pays tribute to David Bowie, Lemmy, Scott Weiland, and Glenn Frey during his ACM Awards performance.

Never failing to remain part of the conversation, Eric Church gave what was easily the most eulogizing performance of the night at the ACM Awards, performing “Record Year,” the second single from his ACM-nominated album, Mr. Misunderstood.

Introduced by Luke Bryan, the five-time nominee wasted no time launching into the song about his love of vinyl, cooly turning phrases normally reserved for a lover to his record player instead.Reaching the end of the first chorus, a DJ spinning a record was suddenly revealed to steadily transition into a quick medley of song segments from “Changes,” “Ace of Spades,” “Vasoline,” “Suffragette City” and “Fame” — all songs by four of Church’s musical idols who passed away in the last year: David Bowie, Scott Weiland, Lemmy and Glenn Frey. “Already Gone” was the finisher, skipping and skittering its way back into the remainder of “Record Year” while Church and his band didn’t miss a beat.
