Hillary Scott’s first music apart from Lady Antebellum is a gospel album with her family and its lead single “Thy Will” — composed in the wake of a tragic miscarriage — wrestles with the idea of faith. She describes her hurt and confusion, the struggles she’s having with understanding how her pain fits into some greater plan.

The video for “Thy Will” finds numerous ways to expound on this idea. Directed by Shane Drake, Scott is shown wearing white, isolated in the woods. She finds a rope in a stream and, following it, has to untie a large knot only to find another knot, then another. There are flashes of fights and thorns, hints of the turmoil that led her to this lonely place. But as with the song, it’s only when she accepts that she’s not meant to understand it that she’s actually set free.

Hillary Scott and the Scott Family’s debut album Love Remains, which was produced by Ricky Skaggs, will be available on July 29th. In the meantime, Lady Antebellum have a handful of festival dates coming up, including a July 2nd engagement at Dauphin’s Countryfest in Dauphin, Manitoba.
