James Hetfield "Motorbreath" Acoustic San Francisco 2016

James Hetfield and Sammy Hagar held their third annual Acoustic-4-A-Cure benefit concert at San Francisco’s Fillmore Sunday night, and among the highlights at the all-star gig was Hetfield’s unique rendition of Metallica‘s “Motorbreath.” Armed with just an acoustic guitar, Hetfield turns the pulverizing, breakneck Kill ‘Em All cut into a tender country ballad.

Hetfield’s three-song set also included a scorching cover of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ classic “I Put a Spell on You” and Metallica’s “The Unforgiven.” For Hetfield’s set, Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, Joe Satriani and Hetfield’s daughter Cali joined the rocker onstage.

John Mayer, Melissa Etheridge, Train singer Pat Monahan, Kris Kristofferson and more also took part in the annual event, which raises money for the Pediatric Cancer Program at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital.

At the 2015 Acoustic-4-A-Cure concert, Hetfield and his daughter covered Adele’s “Crazy for You” together, while surprise guest Adam Sandler perform Led Zeppelin’s “Ramble On” alongside Monahan and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith.
