On Sunday night, Kanye West unveiled the video for “Fade” at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Kanye West took advantage of the attention surrounding Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards to debut the video for "Fade." The visual features the singer Teyana Taylor and her husband, the NBA player Iman Shumpert.
In the clip, Taylor executes a series of moves based on a dance sequence from the 1983 movie Flashdance. The clip features a shower sex scene with Shumpert followed by a segment where Taylor is in a field surrounded by lambs. At one point, her face transforms into the head of a cat.
Kanye has been supportive of Taylor's career in the past: her debut album, VII, came out on Kanye's G.O.O.D. Music label. "Teyana provides something that's so R&B, so black, so hood, so missing, so necessary in the marketplace," Kanye said at the singer's record release party in 2014. He also applauded her at the time "for fighting against the entire system."
Kanye originally debuted "Fade" during a fashion show in New York last September. The track is notable for sampling several classic house tracks by Mr. Fingers, Hardrive, and Barbara Tucker. It features vocals from both Ty Dolla $ign and Post Malone in addition to rapping from Kanye.
