April 1st was a day of firsts for Levi Hummon. He was in Las Vegas for the very first time, there to attend his first ACM Awards. He released his first EP that day, and he performed a song on the collection for the first time to people who helped inspire it.

The rising country star opened the Ram Country Concert at Stoney’s Rockin’ Country in Las Vegas’ Town Square Friday night. Headlined by Brett Eldredge, the event celebrated Ram Trucks employees from across the country. It was a Ram’s slogan, “Guts. Glory. Ram.,” that inspired Hummon to write “Guts and Glory.”

“We talked about everything from Rosa Parks to Mohammed Ali and it became this beautiful silhouette of American culture and American history,” he says of the song, which he penned with Tom Douglas and Travis Hill.

Rolling Stone Country‘s cameras were there to capture the country newcomer performing the anthemic tune, along with the song he deems most autobiographical on his EP, “Life’s for Living” — which he says “is exactly who I am as a person. . . It epitomizes the happy side of me.”
