Sony Is Reportedly Planning to Drop Dr. Luke Amid Ongoing Legal Battle With Kesha

Sony is reportedly dropping Dr. Luke from the label in the wake of his ongoing legal battle with Kesha, according to The Wrap“The fact that this hasn’t already been taken care of is confusing, especially for people in the building,” says an alleged insider. As of right now, Luke still has a year left on his contract with Sony, which is the parent label of his Kemasobe Records. “Somebody has been convicted via Twitter,” a second individual added. “No court has convicted this person, so there may not be any legal basis to terminate an agreement. It would have to be mutual.” A Sony Music spokesperson declined to comment on the situation when we reached out to confirm the reports.

This comes on the heels of Sony receiving relentless public scrutiny to free Kesha from her recording contract with Kemosabe Records. Last month, a New York state judge denied Kesha's request for a preliminary injunction to release the singer from her deal with Kemosabe Records. Previously, Sony released a statement that they have “made it possible for Kesha to record without any connection, involvement or interaction with Luke whatsoever” but that the label is not in a position to terminate the contract between Luke and Kesha. We reached out to Dr. Luke's reps and will continue to update with details when they become available.
