Steven Adler Performs with Guns N' Roses in Cincinnati news

Guns N’ Roses‘ drummer Steven Adler returned to the stage with his former bandmates during their show in Cincinnati on Wednesday, as Blabbermouth.net reports.

It’s the first time Adler has performed with GNR since 1990, though they performed together sans Rose during their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2012. In Cincinnati, Adler performed with the current lineup – singer Axl Rose, guitarist Slash, bassist Duff McKagan, as well as keyboardist Dizzy Reed, guitarist Richard Fortus and drummer Frank Ferrer – during “Out Ta Get Me” and “My Michelle.” Second keyboardist Melissa Reeves was also part of the lineup.

When the tour was first announced, many questioned whether the drummer would return, having been fired in 1990 due to drug abuse. But L.A. Weekly had reported at the time that his absence was due to a medical issue. “A source close to the band told me that Adler is having back surgery,” they reported. “I’ve also been told he’s not ready to tour with GNR, not yet, and maybe not ever.”

However, since they’ve been on the road for this tour, GN’R’s “classic era” lineup seems to be getting along, likely making Adler’s return – whether just a one-off or if he joined them on future shows – more plausible. Last week, Slash spoke of how things were going on the road. “We were all pretty positive that that would never happen so it’s still sort of blowing our minds,” Slash said during a radio interview. “It seems so surreal to me, but everybody’s really getting along great and I think everybody’s come a long way and it’s all cool.”

Guns N’ Roses continue their massive U.S. Not in this Lifetime tour at their next stop in Nashville on July 9th. The tour currently concludes on August 22nd in San Diego at Qualcomm Stadium.
