T.I. may not always be on the right side of history, but this time, the Atlanta native might actually get it right. He defended Beyonce’s politically-charged Super Bowl halftime performance of “Formation.”

“It’s an attack on cops that attack our people,” Tip told TMZ. “How they gon’ protest against our protest? I don’t think that Beyoncé was being malicious in any way in her demonstration, and I feel that anything that is done to demonstrate against a pure demonstration is gon’ lose in the end.”

The “Live Your Life” rapper went on to say some insightful words on the Black Lives Matter movement.

“Everything that we’re doing as far as the Black Lives Matter movement, it is to speak out and fight against unnecessary, unlawful death of our people, by people who are supposed to be put in a position of authority to protect and serve our people. So if you are against that, then to me, that is un-American.”

The Queen Bee dropped her latest song last Saturday which cited love for the often criticized “black” features. “I like my baby hair with baby hair and afros,” she sang. During the performance, Beyonce and her all woman back-up dancers dressed head-to-toe in all-black with berets to match a la the historic Black Panthers. Many have called out that it is an attack on cops and that it wasn’t the right time to draw attention to political issues. It seems T.I. is one of the many who doesn’t think so.
