Video of Taylor Swift actually co-signing Kanye West’s “Famous” lyrics – despite not hearing the song – has certainly left an egg on her face. But there’s more to the story.

According to TMZ, Ms. Swift threatened Yeezy with legal action back in February if their secret phone conversation ever gets leaked. The pop singer’s attorney stated in the suit that under California law, anyone who secretly records a telephone conversation with someone in the state is committing a criminal offense.

“Demand is hereby made that you immediately destroy all such recordings, provide us of assurance that this has been done, and also assurance that these recordings have not been previously disseminated,” notes the lawsuit, according to TMZ.

In other words, if their phone conversation ever gets out in public, West has committed a felony and Swift will definitely move for full prosecution. So at this point, the 26-year-old pop singer could file a lawsuit against Mr. and Mrs. West for violating the law.

On Monday (July 18), Taylor went on her Instagram page to insist that she didn’t not “approve” the song because she never heard it.

“While I wanted to be supportive of Kanye on the phone call, you cannot ‘approve’ a song you haven’t heard,” she writes. “Being falsely painted as a liar when I was never given the full story or played any part of the song is character assassination.”

Taylor Swift’s attorney had no comment on the matter.
