The Roots Are Working on Their Next Album, Tentatively Titled 'End Game' news

Excellent news, everybody: The Roots have returned to the studio.

On Monday, Questlove hit up Instagram to announce that the crew’s 17th record, tentatively titled End Game, was heading our way. He shared the news with a video clip in which producer Stro Elliot is seen making a beat. And from the sound of it, the group isn’t straying from their signature jazz-funk style.

In the post, Questlove explained The Roots will approach End Game with a method they originally used for their 1996 album Illadelph Halflife: They’ll jam out during the day, and then sample the session at night.

A day after Questlove broke the news, drummer/producer Karriem Riggins revealed his involvement with the upcoming album, which he described as “amazing.”

Questlove has not revealed any more details on End Game, such as when fans can expect it. Though The Roots have released a handful of projects and are serving as the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon house band, they haven’t dropped a full-length album since 2014’s …And Then You Shoot Your Cousin. It definitely feels long overdue, and we can’t wait to hear what they have in store.
