Former Smiths‘ bassist Andy Rourke and the Cranberries‘ singer Dolores O’Riordan have teamed up for a new band called D.A.R.K., which includes songwriter, producer and DJ Olé Koretsky. Their 10-song debut album, Science Agrees, will be released this spring.
The surprising team-up came by chance, according to a press release. The trio formed its roots from when Rourke and Koretsky met and created Jetlag, a New York-based remix and production team and group. The pair experimented and worked on tracks in their home studios. Rourke and O’Riordan randomly met later, and according to the release, O’Riordan asked what Rourke was working on, which led to them sharing tracks online that built on Rourke and Koretsky’s base tracks. In some cases, O’Riordan reimagined the songs.
Koretsky was already working on a project called Science Agrees, which was added to their developing creations. The trio met in Ontario, Canada, to record, and they all arranged and produced the album. D.A.R.K.’s first single, “Curvy,” is more danceable and buoyant sounding than one might expect from the unlikely collaboration, but it’s inline with their influences, which includes electronica and new wave music. D.A.R.K. will embark on a five-date tour, beginning on May 13th in O’Riordan’s hometown of Limerick at Dolans, and it wraps on May 23rd in Milan, Italy, at Tunnel.
Science Agrees will be released on May 27th via Cooking Vinyl.
