After sharing the visuals for his upcoming third studio album, Starboy, yesterday, and very little additional information, The Weeknd has followed up with a new single of the same name featuring Daft Punk.
The singer also has given an official release date for his anticipated album, which is arriving just in time for the Christmas shopping season on Nov. 25 via Republic Records. When the colorful visual for Starboy was released, Twitter fans went into a frenzy talking about the singer’s decision to chop his signature hair. Now clean cut and boasting new music, The Weeknd seems to be embracing a fresh direction.
“There are new inspirations on this album. The production feels aggressive but still sexy,” he said in an interview with VMAN. “The Smiths, Bad Brains, Talking Heads, Prince, and DeBarge play roles. We wrote it all in Los Angeles. I think it’ll be the best-sounding album I’ve ever done. It’s hard to label the sound because, when I first came out, nobody would label it R&B. I just want to keep pushing the envelope without it feeling forced.”
His latest song is defined a bouncy-ticking beat, as he boasts about what he’s brining to the table.
“I’m tryina put you in the worst mood, ah/P1 cleaner than your church shoes, ah/Mili point two just to hurt you, ah/All red Lamb’ just to tease you, ah,” he sings on the first verse.
