The Weeknd vs. Maxwell — The Boombox Battle

The Weeknd vs. Maxwell — The Boombox Battle news

The Weeknd took the win in last week’s Boombox Battle against Rihanna’s “Kiss It Better.”

He’s coming in hard with a remixed version of “Rambo.” Taking on the Bryson Tiller track, the Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, keeps his singing delivery but speeds it up and proves he has a melodic yet versatile flow.

“I just signed a deal so big that it’s a secret / Victoria’s Secret Angels dancin’ ’round me for a reason / Spread your wings for me like I’m Freddie Mercury / But baby, you should call me king, you know that it’s my season,” Weeknd rap-sings.

Maxwell is his opponent this week. After a seven-year hiatus, we finally get to hear from this legendary balladeer. His latest single, “Lake By the Ocean,” has the same smooth yet sensual feel that we always loved from Maxwell but sounds a bit more updated to reign in newer fans for the soul singer.

“It’s just you, just us / Nobody but love / On trust, on us, nobody now / Can we swim a lake by the ocean / We’ll be one like drops in slow motion / Lake by the ocean,” the 42-year-old singer delivers.

Who will win this week’s The BoomBox Battle? Will it be The Weeknd’s aggressive banger or Maxwell’s emotional ballad? It’s time for you to decide. Vote in the poll below. Remember, you can vote once every hour until Tuesday, April 12 at 10AM EST.
