In the east end of Toronto, Aubrey Graham’s name rings out. Nah, not Drake. We’re talking about the O.G.—Aubrey Douglas Graham, an 83-year-old Jamaican man from Scarborough.
Earlier this week, the Toronto Star tracked the only other known 6-side resident who has a name (and a middle initial) in common with Drake. When they asked him how it felt to have the same name as one of the most recognizable musicians in the world, the perfect mic-drop ensued: “You’d have to ask him what he thinks of having my name!” Besides Ricky Ross, 83-year-old Aubrey the biggest boss here.
The elder Aubrey was born in western Jamaica, but moved to a small brick house on Kennedy Rd. in Scarborough nearly 50 years ago. Apparently, he’s a fan of the other Aubrey Graham’s music, but when it comes down to it, he prefers Harry Belafonte to “Hotline Bling.”
We hate to disagree with Rap Genius, but we’re pretty sure this is what Drake #actually meant when he said he had real ones living past Kennedy Rd.
