Thomas Rhett’s new single, “Vacation” can be described as three and a half minutes of blissful escapism. Or, as he calls it, “very tweetable.” “I can see people hashtagging, ‘Party like you’re on vacation,'” he says.
The hip-hop-tinged tune was inspired by the Georgia native’s love of the beach. But it promotes making your own beach fun, whether you’re in Turks and Caicos or at a Motel Six. . . sipping Red Stripe in Jamaica or crushing a Busch Light in Decatur. “It’s kinda written from the standpoint of a guy who might not even be at the beach,” Rhett tells Rolling Stone Country, “but in his mind, he’s on this tropical, exotic spot.”
The song’s music video was filmed, appropriately, on Rhett’s Hawaiian vacation with wife Lauren. It shows the two surfing, cliff jumping and skydiving, among other adrenaline rushes. “My wife and I love Hawaii, love to surf, love to paddleboard, love to skydive” he says. “I just wanted a song that described summertime to me and the way I envision paradise.”
“Vacation” follows the chart-topping “T-Shirt” as the fourth single from Rhett’s Tangled Up album.
