The Roots’ delivered their pre-summer music festival at Philadelphia’s Penn’s Landing on Saturday (June 4). Although headliners Usher, DMX and Leon Bridges rocked the Philly crowd, Future had technical difficulties during his set.

According to Philly.com, the 2016 Roots Picnic was largely a successful event despite some glitches.

Future’s set was marred with technical problems. The Atlanta rhymer was scheduled to perform for one hour but 20 minutes into his performance the music stopped. Future came back onstage for another go-around, only to have the music halt again. After that, Future left the stage and never came back, much to the disappointment of fans who hurled water bottles at the stage.

Despite that hiccup, much of the Roots picnic was filled with great performances.

Willow and her famous dad, Will Smith, kicked off the festival with a rousing performance of “Summertime,” which is undoubtedly the best summer tune of all time.

Another standout performance came from DMX who was joined by Swizz Beatz. The former Ruff Ryder rapper was so energetic that he actually jumped on one of the giant stage speakers to perform “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem.”

Later into the night, Usher joined the illadelph band for a soothing set of hits from his expansive catalog. The 37-year-old singer, who also wore a Muhammad Ali T-shirt in honor of the late boxing legend, opened with “Caught Up” before segueing to “U Make Me Wanna” and then adding some Philly bounce to “U Remind Me.” Usher also brought out a few surprise guests like Lil Jon for a fun rendition of “Yeah” and R&B songbird Yuna for their soothing duet of “Crush.”

Other performers included Leon Bridges who delivered some throwback soul that enthused the crowd. Earlier in the afternoon, Kehlani performed as well as Anderson .Paak and his band the Free Nationals. Finally, Jidenna is still a “Classic Man” who came through with a winning set.
