If you’ve been sleeping on A$AP Ferg‘s sophomore effort, Always Strive and Prosper, what’s your deal? Thankfully, Seth Meyers isn’t sleeping. He invited Ferg to be the musical guest on Wednesday’s Late Night, where the A$AP Mob member turned in a next-level performance of Always Strive and Prosper standout, “New Level.”
Always Strive and Prosper, which was released in April, has been a critical slam dunk. The album debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200, thanks to the success of “New Level,” which features Future, and the ScHoolboy Q collab, “Let It Bang.” While speaking with Complex about the album’s release in May, Ferg pointed to its confessional content as a byproduct of gaining a better understanding of his unique place in hip-hop.
“I’m not making music to impress myself, or just my friends anymore,” Ferg said. “I’m making music to heal people. This one kid told me that my music helped him get through chemotherapy. That’s what changed my understanding of music, and just knowing that I can’t make music for myself. I have to make music to heal.”
Ferg and A$AP Mob celebrated the life and legacy of the late A$AP Yams in May with the video for “Yammy Gang.”
Ferg will perform at Irving Plaza in New York with Tory Lanez as part of the Level Up Tour on Thursday night. If that’s not near your corner of the planet, Ferg is also hitting Finsbury Park in London in July. You can check out his Late Night performance in the video at the top.
