Watch Bruce Springsteen Recruit 10 Year Old for 'Blinded by the Light' news

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band closed out the U.S. leg of their ‘The River’ tour at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center Monday night with a three-and-a-half hour set that included covers of Prince’s “Purple Rain,” John Lee Hooker’s “Boom Boom” and Jimmy Cliff’s “Trapped.” But it was a 10-year-old fan that provided one of the night’s biggest highlights.

After performing The River in its entirety, Springsteen honored fan requests for “Boom Boom” and “Loose Ends,” the latter meant for the scrapped album The Ties That Bind that would eventually end up on the 1998 box set Tracks. After spotting a young fan holding a sign that read, “I’ve been Blinded by the Light! (I’m 10 years old and I know all the words. Try me!)” the singer invited the girl onstage to test her chops.

“This is a big test,” Springsteen said before accompanying her on guitar. After performing the first verse solo, the girl was joined by the Barclays crowd for the chorus before Springsteen continued to assist her throughout the song. After autographing her sign, the singer joked to the crowd, “That’s impressive. I don’t even know the words.” Monday night’s show set a new Barclays attendance record, according to the venue.

“This is going to be our last official performance of The River from start to finish,” Springsteen said. “We’re going to open up our set list overseas.” Springsteen will launch the European leg of the tour May 14th in Barcelona, Spain, traveling the continent before ending on July 31st in Zurich, Switzerland.
