The cast of Broadway’s smash musical Hamilton joined the 2016 Grammy Awards via satellite from their home at New York City’s Richard Rodgers Theatre. It’s the first time a musical has appeared on the show in five years.

Stephen Colbert introduced the performance from New York. In full costume and using their regular set, Hamilton performed the musical’s opening number “Alexander Hamilton,” which introduces the audience to the show’s namesake as well as the other historical figures in his life. The show subsequently won the Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album.

“To perform from our home is a dream come true,” the show’s star and creator Lin-Manuel Miranda said of the performance in a statement prior to the ceremony (via Entertainment Tonight). The Grammy Awards’ producer Ken Ehrlich called the show “the toast of Broadway” in an interview with ET.

Miranda previously won Best Musical Theater Album in 2009 for his Broadway debut In the Heights. He also won a Pulitzer for In the Heights that same year as well as two Tony Awards for the show. Hamilton led to a MacArthur Genius grant for the composer, lyricist, actor, singer and rapper just last year.
