Jennifer Lopez and Lin-Manuel Miranda performed their tribute to the victims and families of the Orlando shooting at the Today show on Monday morning. “Love Make the World Go Round” is available now on iTunes.
Families of the slain joined 50 survivors of the tragic shooting at Orlando’s gay nightclub Pulse to witness the show in New York City’s Rockefeller Center. Lopez stood in the center of the stage as a recording of Miranda Tony Award acceptance speech — specifically his phrase “Love is love is love is love” — played over the speakers before she began singing the joyous, empowering track. Miranda walked to the stage through the audience, performing his verse before the pair encouraged the audience members to take the hands of the people next to them as many waved rainbow flags.
Miranda’s Today show appearance wraps up an emotional weekend for the Pulitzer Prize winner who ended his run as the lead in the smash historical musical Hamilton. His final show took place on Saturday and was also the final performance for co-stars Leslie Odom Jr. and Phillipa Soo.
