Watch Kesha Cover the Bob Dylan Song She Was Going to Perform at the Billboard Music Awards news

Wednesday night, Kesha joined Ben Folds on stage at his concert in Los Angeles for a performance, which included the song she was going to sing at the Billboard Music Awards. The duo surprised the audience with a cover of Bob Dylan’s “It Ain’t Me Babe,” Folds’ “Fighting It” and “Rock This Bitch,” and a partial cover of Kesha’s own “Sleazy.”

“Thanks for letting me share your stage, your band, your audience, your humor, your songs. thanks for believing in me,” Kesha wrote on Instagram before revealing Folds’ records helped get her through high school. She went on to thank Folds “for being a good friend in this scary business.”

Kesha was supposed to cover Dylan’s “It Ain’t Me Babe” this weekend at the Billboard Music Awards until her label, Kemosabe Records, rescinded their agreement and canceled the performance. “This performance was about me honoring one of my favorite songwriters of all time and has never had anything at all to do with Dr. Luke,” Kesha posted to Instagram.

Following news of the canceled performance, Kesha’s mom, Pebe Sebert, went off on Twitter about her daughter no longer being able to perform. She questioned the legal system that had failed her daughter and asked why a label would ever cancel their artist’s show. “Are KEMOSABE’s actions today the actions of a record label that is trying to promote the success of their artist? Wouldn’t any record company fight to have their artist have the exposure to millions?” Fortunately, no one could stand in the way of Kesha taking the stage last night to perform. Watch all of their performances below.
