Watch Metal Outfit Gojira's Startling, Engrossing 'Silvera' Video news

New York-via-France metal outfit Gojira have delivered a frenetic, shocking new video for “Silvera,” the latest offering from their upcoming album, Magma.

Directed by Drew Cox, the video offers a startling mix of gorgeous NYC aerial shots, footage of Gojira bashing out the song on a rooftop and an odd array of abstract vignettes. In those strange scenes, a woman dances in a cloud of white powder, a faceless man and his clone kiss while they hold tablets selfie-style, another woman’s eyes bleed black tar and the sky fills with a storm of bodies falling upward.

“Silvera” follows Magma‘s first single, “Stranded.” The LP marks Gojira’s first since 2012’s L’Enfant Sauvage and is slated to arrive on June 17th. The group will tour Europe this summer before embarking on a headlining North American trek with Tesseract September 21st; a complete list of dates is available on the Gojira’s website.

Magma was recorded at Gojira’s new studio, Silver Cord, in Ridgewood, Queens. As the band’s songwriting core — siblings Joe and Mario Duplantier — explained in an interview with Rolling Stone, both the studio and album came together as their mother fell ill and eventually died.

“We had a bitter taste about the album when everything was going on,” Joe said. “We’d say, ‘Fuck, what about the album? Fuck.’ It took us months.” Mario added: “But at the same time, it became the soul of the album. We respect the fact that this album took a long time, because it’s full of emotion.”
