Skrillex played his first DJ set for Boiler Room.
A new video of Skrillex's Boiler Room debut in Shanghai during the International Music Summit Asia-Pacific has emerged. For 75 minutes, Skrillex bounded through genres, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with fans for the intimate performance.
The foundation was Skrillex's own gnashing electronic tracks peppered with tunes from Benny Benassi, DJ Snake. Hip-hop artists like Schoolboy Q featuring Kanye West, DJ Khaled with Jay Z and Future and Chief Keef also come up alongside artists affiliated with Skrillex's OWSLA label like Getter & Ghastly's "666!" and Mija and Vindata's "Better."
Occasionally, Skrillex sneaked starting moments of melody into the mix – a remix of Jeremih's hit "Oui" causes the producer to conduct a crowd singalong – or basketball arena favorites like Nu Shooz's "I Can't Wait." The set ends on a calm note with the Skrillex remix of Hundred Waters' "Show Me Love."
In August, Skrillex opened for Guns N' Roses. "I'm a forever-evolving artist," the producer told Rolling Stone.
