Former Antony & The Johnsons founder Anohni has released more politically-charged goodness with the video for her most recent release “Drone Bomb Me”. The single comes from her new album Hopelessness and continues to generate understandable hype, with the album being co-produced by Hudson Mohawke and Oneohtrix Point Never. After teasing “4 Degrees”, the first single from the album released in support of issues raised at The Paris Climate Conference last year, Anohni's sound continues to be slick in production and powerful in message. Anohni describes “Drone Bomb Me” as a “love song from the perspective of a girl whose family has been killed by a drone looking at the sky simply wanting to be killed by a drone bomb too.” So drone bomb me is woozily bellowed throughout the track, alongside some disgruntled choreography, which creates an eerie yet ethereal effect.
Super model and recent Yeezy Season 3 affiliate Naomi Campbell lip-syncs the track in the video, where she is solemnly shot crying whilst scantily clad, along with what looks like a Statue of Liberty-esque head piece, further accentuating the vibe of anti-war propaganda. “I just want to write songs with teeth as sharp as my thoughts,” she says of the electronic number as a condemnation against drone campaigns.
