Watch the Minnesota Twins' Touching Tribute to Prince news

Last week, as the world mourned the death of Prince, his hometown Minnesota Twins paid tribute by lighting Target Field in purple – and promised a proper ceremony when the team returned home on Monday.

So when the Twins began their three-game homestand against the Cleveland Indians last night, they did so by releasing seven white doves before the first pitch, and then went #PurpleForPrince, with each player choosing one of his songs as their walkup music for the night (props to Oswaldo Arcia for going with “I Would Die 4 U”). The Twins also wore purple sweatbands in honor of Prince, and played his music throughout the game, courtesy of his friend DJ Dudley D.

Here’s a look at the pregame ceremony.

Over the weekend, Target Field hosted a free screening of Purple Rain, and the Twins announced that Prince’s “Little Red Corvette” would be played during the seventh-inning stretch at all home games for the remainder of the season.

Perhaps most fitting of all, the Twins won Monday night’s game with a walk-off home run, courtesy of Arcia. Hey, it always helps to have someone looking out for you from up above.
