Ty Dolla $ign has been very vocal about honoring and promoting his brother TC, even going so far as to name his debut album after him. The singer’s brother is currently incarcerated in California on a murder charge, although Ty maintains that he is innocent and was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
To that end, he released a new mini-documentary today called Free TC, which attempts to shed more light on the pair’s relationship and the story surrounding his incarceration. Although they were close as children, a competitive rift had apparently developed between the two, causing TC to fall in with a bad crowd. The film explains that he was not at the scene of the crime where the murder happened, but was identified anyway by a witness. “I felt fucked up when I found out that he was arrested for murder,” said Ty. I mean how would you feel?”
It goes on to detail Ty’s ambition to get his brother released from prison, and gives some more detail on the creative forces behind the Free TC album. We often see the fun, carefree side of Ty, but this documentary shows fans a lot more about his struggles in a very real and touching way. Hopefully, this can all have a happy ending.
