Wyclef Jean to Release EP for Carnival Season Titled 'J'ouvert' news

Wyclef Jean has got fans covered for the approaching Carnival season with a new EP, J’ouvert, arriving next month.

“Every day when I wake up, I go into the studio and record,” Wyclef revealed to AllHipHop.com in a statement. “There’s always a guitar and a piano nearby. I’m always writing, that’s my survival. I don’t go to a therapist. My therapy is when I pick up my guitar and sing.””

Fans are already getting a taste of what’s to come from the Haitian artist with the release of a few singles including “Hendrix” and “My Girl.” The former also got a “spanglish” remix.

Although Jean is known for his skills on the guitar, “Hendrix” isn’t about the famed guitar player, Jimi Hendrix. Instead, it’s a telling of his hometown in Haiti.

“This speaks to the neighborhood I grew up in and how it didn’t look like much,” Wyclef said of “Hendrix” which features 18-year-old newbie singer, Farina. “The devil, or the streets, offered drugs and cartel and I chose music,” continued Wyclef. “Some homies chose the NBA, or we would see people like Shaq who are from Newark and see how they made it out the danger zone.”

But that’s not all the new music fans can expect from Jean. He’s also set to drop a new album, Carnival III: Road To Clerification, next summer. Features will include international artists like Afrojack, Avicii and Emeli Sande.

J’ouvert is slated to arrive on Sept. 30. Check out the EP’s track list below.
